The indices at the close

With the market closed on April 14, 2026, the S&P 500 finished at 6967, up 1.18% on the day, 5% on the week and 4% on the month. The Nasdaq closed up 1.81% on the day, 6.3% on the week and 4% on the month. The Dow added 0.66% on the day, 4.46% on the week and 3.6% on the month. All three sit near all time highs, with the S&P about 0.6% below its record. With the indices pressing higher, the VIX pulled back hard, down 23.16% on the week.

Sectors

Energy is the one sector in the red, with ExxonMobil and Chevron leading the losses. Tech stocks are up an average of 8.84% on the week. MU leads at 31.85% on the week and Nvidia is up 13.8%, while Apple is close to unchanged at 1.62%. There are losers inside tech too, with Palantir slightly down on the week. Financials are up but not by as much as tech, consumer discretionary is also up, and utilities are close to flat at 0.84%.

Treasuries

The 5 year Treasury yields 3.87%, the 10 year 4.25% and the 30 year 4.86%.

The week in one line

It was a mixed week for anyone trading energy stocks. For anything outside energy the screen was almost entirely green.
