ApexVol MCP server for Claude Desktop

Options data,
inside Claude Desktop.

The hosted connector is the whole setup: one URL, one approval, no install. Prefer to run the server on your own machine? That path is below it.

The hosted server, recommended

Connected with
one URL.

ApexVol runs the server. Claude Desktop signs in to your ApexVol account through the browser, so nothing is installed and no token is copied anywhere.

  1. Open Claude Desktop, then Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector and paste https://apexvol.com/mcp-server. It is the only value you enter.
  3. Claude opens apexvol.com. Sign in if you are not already, then approve the read-only request.
  4. Start a new chat and ask: what is SPY's IV rank?

You

What is SPY's IV rank, and is it high for the last year?

Claude Desktop calls the tool and answers from live data.
  • Read-only. The connector can read options analytics on your behalf and nothing else. It cannot see billing or change your account.
  • Use the apex form of the URL, apexvol.com without www. The www form fails the audience check on purpose.
  • Approving creates a token you can see and revoke under Account, then API Access.

The local client, for developers

Or run it
on your machine.

The open-source apexvol-mcp package runs as a small process Claude Desktop starts for you. It needs Python 3.10 or newer and an API token.

  1. Install the client: pipx install apexvol-mcp (plain pip works too). Python 3.10 or newer.
  2. Create a token under Account, then API Access. It starts with avmcp_ and is shown once.
  3. Check it before touching any config: APEXVOL_API_TOKEN=avmcp_... apexvol-mcp --check prints the version, the auth result and your remaining budget.
  4. Add the block below to claude_desktop_config.json. On macOS it lives at ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/, on Windows at %APPDATA%\Claude\.
  5. Quit and reopen Claude Desktop. The tools appear under the hammer icon.
claude_desktop_config.jsontoken in the environment, never in a prompt

  "mcpServers": {
    "apexvol": {
      "command": "apexvol-mcp",
      "env": { "APEXVOL_API_TOKEN": "avmcp_YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Tokens are created under Account, then API Access, shown once, and rotate in one click if one ever leaks. The same token calls the REST API from your own code.

Questions

Before you
paste the URL.

Do I need to install anything to use ApexVol in Claude Desktop?

No. The hosted connector runs on apexvol.com. You paste the connector URL under Settings, then Connectors, approve access once, and Claude can call the tools. The local install exists for people who want the server running on their own machine.

Which Claude plans support custom connectors?

Custom connectors are available on Claude's paid plans. The ApexVol side is included with every paid ApexVol plan, and each tool follows the same tier as the matching web feature.

Can Claude change anything in my ApexVol account?

No. The approval grants one permission: read options analytics on your behalf. It cannot touch billing, your password or your saved data.

How do I disconnect?

Remove the connector in Claude, or revoke the token labelled Claude connector under Account, then API Access. Either one ends access immediately.
