ApexVol runs the server. Gemini CLI signs in to your ApexVol account through the browser, so nothing is installed and no token is copied anywhere.

  1. Run: gemini mcp add --transport http apexvol https://apexvol.com/mcp-server, or add the block below to ~/.gemini/settings.json.
  2. Start Gemini CLI and run /mcp auth apexvol. A browser tab opens on apexvol.com.

Gemini CLI calls the tool and answers from live data.
  • Read-only. The connector can read options analytics on your behalf and nothing else. It cannot see billing or change your account.
  • Use the apex form of the URL, apexvol.com without www. The www form fails the audience check on purpose.
  • Approving creates a token you can see and revoke under Account, then API Access.

The open-source apexvol-mcp package runs as a small process Gemini CLI starts for you. It needs Python 3.10 or newer and an API token.

  1. Install the client: pipx install apexvol-mcp (plain pip works too). Python 3.10 or newer.
  2. Create a token under Account, then API Access. It starts with avmcp_ and is shown once.
  3. Check it before touching any config: APEXVOL_API_TOKEN=avmcp_... apexvol-mcp --check prints the version, the auth result and your remaining budget.
  4. Use the block below instead so Gemini CLI starts apexvol-mcp with the token in its environment.
  5. Run /mcp inside Gemini CLI to confirm the server is connected.

Which transport does Gemini CLI use for the hosted server?

Streamable HTTP, configured with httpUrl in settings.json or the --transport http flag on gemini mcp add. The sign-in runs through /mcp auth.

Can I scope the server to one project?

Yes. A .gemini/settings.json inside the project holds project-scoped servers; ~/.gemini/settings.json holds the ones available everywhere.

Does Gemini pick the tools by itself?

Yes, when a prompt needs market data, and you can name a tool or a ticker to direct it. /mcp lists every tool with its description.

What does the local client need?

Python 3.10 or newer, the apexvol-mcp package from PyPI, and an API token in the environment. apexvol-mcp --check verifies all three before you touch settings.json.
