ApexVol MCP server for Windsurf

Options analytics,
in Cascade.

Windsurf's Cascade agent loads MCP servers from mcp_config.json. Point it at the hosted server and sign in, or run the local client with a token.

43Tools Windsurf can call

0Tokens to copy on the hosted path

The hosted server, recommended

Connected with
one URL.

ApexVol runs the server. Windsurf signs in to your ApexVol account through the browser, so nothing is installed and no token is copied anywhere.

  1. Open Windsurf Settings, then Cascade, then MCP servers, and choose to manage or add a server. The raw config file is ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.
  2. Add the block below and save. Windsurf lists apexvol with a sign-in prompt.
  3. Follow it to apexvol.com, sign in and approve the read-only request.
  4. In Cascade ask: what is the largest options flow in NVDA today?
Windsurf~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apexvol": {
      "serverUrl": "https://apexvol.com/mcp-server"
    }
  }
}
First questionproves the connection
You

What is the largest options flow in NVDA today, and does it read bullish or bearish?

Windsurf calls the tool and answers from live data.
  • Read-only. The connector can read options analytics on your behalf and nothing else. It cannot see billing or change your account.
  • Use the apex form of the URL, apexvol.com without www. The www form fails the audience check on purpose.
  • Approving creates a token you can see and revoke under Account, then API Access.

The local client, for developers

Or run it
on your machine.

The open-source apexvol-mcp package runs as a small process Windsurf starts for you. It needs Python 3.10 or newer and an API token.

  1. Install the client: pipx install apexvol-mcp (plain pip works too). Python 3.10 or newer.
  2. Create a token under Account, then API Access. It starts with avmcp_ and is shown once.
  3. Check it before touching any config: APEXVOL_API_TOKEN=avmcp_... apexvol-mcp --check prints the version, the auth result and your remaining budget.
  4. Use the block below instead so Windsurf starts apexvol-mcp itself with the token in its environment.
  5. Refresh the MCP list in Cascade. The tools appear once the process is up.
~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.jsontoken in the environment, never in a prompt
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "apexvol": {
      "command": "apexvol-mcp",
      "env": { "APEXVOL_API_TOKEN": "avmcp_YOUR_TOKEN" }
    }
  }
}

Tokens are created under Account, then API Access, shown once, and rotate in one click if one ever leaks. The same token calls the REST API from your own code.

Questions

Before you
paste the URL.

Where is Windsurf's MCP config?

At ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. The Cascade settings panel edits the same file, so either route works.

Does Windsurf support remote MCP servers?

Yes, through the serverUrl form shown above. Servers that need a sign-in prompt for it in the MCP panel.

How many tools can Cascade load?

Windsurf caps the number of active MCP tools across servers. ApexVol exposes 43; if you run several servers, disable the ones you are not using so the cap is not hit.

Will Cascade call the tools automatically?

Yes, when a request needs market data. You can also name the tool or the ticker directly to steer it.

Prefer the long version? The MCP setup guide covers the protocol, and the docs page lists every Bearer endpoint the tools call.
